Intergraph Computer Services is part of a consortium of 12 private companies and local governments collaborating for the VIRGO project (VIrtual Registry of the under above on GrOund Infrastructures), an European project started on January 1st 2014, over the next 36 months, funded by the Competiveness and innovation framework programme 2007-2013.
The objective is to develop a virtual registry of the existing infrastructures in several European countries, a standardized system to store and manage data in a unique manner. The registry will be implemented in cloud and available to the public through a dedicated portal that can be used later on by countries all over Europe.
The project aims to develop procedures for map production and regulatory provisions and in order to test the implementation efficiency, three EU countries representatives from the infrastructure point of view, were chosen for the pilot project: Italy, Portugal and Romania. The impact of VIRGO will be the increase of cloud computing usage by local governments, a key element for delivering quality information services to the public as well as establishing common strategies with IT&C companies and improving their capabilities. The 12 organizations that are part of the VIRGO consortium are Ericsson (IT), Italdata (IT), Intergraph Computer Services (RO), Portgas (PT), EDP Distribuicao Energia (PT), AEM COM (IT), Paris Lodron-Universitat Salzburg (AT), Centre Recherche Public Henri Tudor (LU), Regione Lombardia (IT), Brasov Municipality (RO) and Oporto Municipality (PT), under the coordination of INFRATEL Italia.
